Hello everyone!
I know a couple of you moved over with me from Patreon or my mailerite newsletter some time ago. For that I am super thankful! Those of you who joined me after my move from patreon/mailerite, I want to say thank you as well. Both free and paid subscribers. You guys and gals are amazing!
Later today book 3 of RAAP will finish publishing here on the sub. I have to make a few minor tweaks to one of the chapters, but its something like 4-5 chapters all at once. Again, only for paid subscribers. The rest of book 3 will go up over on Royal Road at an increased rate of one chapter a day until its all out there.
Later this or next month, I will be migrating everything over to Ream Stories. A website dedicated to doing subscriptions like Substack and Patreon, but specifically for authors and readers. Its literally built ground up for us, rather then artists, or game devs, or journalists, or whatever patreon and substack are focusing on these days.
My friend Seth Ring made a video on the subject that you can watch here.
Its functionality is superb, both for the reader and the author. I’ve actually been playing around over there as a reader on several other authors ream pages, and its been a great experience as a reader.
Much better then my experience as a reader over on Patreon (and that’s alright ). And the margins are predictable and middle of the road for other subscription platforms. Better then most i’d say at a flat 10%.
They also make it easy to do taxes, which the other platforms save Patreon don’t do. Patreon takes a much steeper percentage in the end despite only have supposedly 5%, because they have hidden charges for most types of content. And they have processing fees and other things that most readers don’t really know about. On top of that, they’re not super friendly to authors in general.
Graphic, or sexual content, even mildly spicy written content tends to get booted off their platform (despite hosting games and the like that are muuuuch more adult content related . . . but that’s a gripe for another time). While violence is borderline and has seen some authors kicked off in the past.
I understand that the functionality here on Substack is made specifically for journalists and columnists. I knew that when I first migrated over here, and I was willing to migrate became it allowed me to manage my newsletter, AND my subscription in the same place. Its been a decent place for me.
However, its not designed to make things easy to navigate as a reader, and it hardly allows for any organization that isn’t manually controlled. Something that takes a LOT of time and effort on my part.
And the fact I can’t center text, after YEARS of promising that they’d turn that feature on . . . infuriates me as a LitRPG and Progression Fantasy author. Like what the heck? Anyway . . .
Long story short: I’m moving over to REAM. There will be a free newsletter section on there as there was here. And i’ll try to be more consistent with it XD
FOR PAID SUBS: Those of you who pre purchased a year of access or even just for the next month, have no fear! I can give you that same access over on ream without you needing to pay anything. Something both Substack and Patreon hate giving creatives the ability to do . . .
As a major thank you to all of my paid subscribers . . . I have your information, and I will be sending you a free YEAR of access to all of my content at the highest reader tier on REAM as a thank you for your support. Be watching in your email for that. If you don’t see it by say, the end of July, please send me an email at Aaron.Holloway.1990@gmail.com. This substack will still remain up until everything and everyone is fully migrated over, or I start work on RAAP 4. Whichever comes first.
To all of you, both FREE and PAID subs: Thank you! You have been such a massive help to me, you have no idea. You've helped keep me sane, and helped me afford software to improve the quality of the editing process for my writing, and helped keep my dream of one day becoming a full time author alive.
You guys rock!
